DIY Lip Jelly

So I never thought I would be making a lip product tutorial since I generally think those are redundant and stupid. People usually mix vaseline and kool aid to make a lip balm or mix vaseline with a lip gloss.

And that is exactly what I'm doing today, but the difference is that I'm going to be using a lipstick I don't really like and making it into a lip jelly, so I don't have to throw away the ugly lipstick.

Supplies:
- Lip Stick ( you don't like)
- Container
- Vaseline
- Toothpick or Spatula

Optional:
- Maracuja Oil
- Candle and matches
- Spoon or Tinfoil

So the lipstick I chose was Rimmel Kate No. 12 because the color is not ME at all.
It's a super bright carrot orange that I cannot bring myself to wear at all. But it is very pretty sheered out.

First thing you want to do is cut off a bit of the lipstick into the container.

Then, add the vaseline depending on how  pigmented   you want your lip jelly to be. Then mix.

Technically, you are now done, but I like to melt it down so it looks more "store-made".

Now your going to want to light your candle and put the lip jelly onto a metal surface for melting.

Add a drop of maracuja oil for extra moisturization and this is how it looks

How it looks:

Over your natural lip color it's a very vibrant light peachy color. Hope you guys liked this DIY.

Xhilaration Shayenne High tops

Edit: They are now on sale for $28.99, so get them while the sales lasts.

Just got these high tops from Target for about 35$. They offer several other colors depending on where you buy it. I got mine in stores and they had the color I got, black and a light beige. You can get them here.

These match with virtually everything and in the photo I was wearing shorts. Im pretty short, so they offer the extra height I want but is almost as comfortable as any other sneaker. I got them in blue-grey, but the my lighting makes them look dark gray. Sorry if the picture is kind of blury.

Sally Hansen Gunmetal Swatch

Nail polish for the week of 8/10.

No-Flash

Flash

I used glue to make my nails have a temporary matte finish. I wanted to make sure that it would look good with the matte finish since I can easily peel the glue off. Its super temporary because it will come off when you wash your hands. If you want to try this, make sure you don't immediately put the glue on because when you rip it off. It will peel off your nail color, but if you do you can easily wash off the glue with soap and water.

DIY Moisturizer

So this was inspired by Lisa Pullano aka BeautySplurge on Youtube. She made a video on DIY BB/CC cream so i decided to make my own moisturizer using similar oils she used.

So last week I ordered these oils off Amazon and Walgreens.

Now some skin benefits of these oils. Im not an expert but most of the information I found is from google, so feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

Vitamin E Oil

You can use Vita E for a variety of things like:
-Stretch Marks
-Eczema
-Preventing Skin Cancer if your a tanner
-Hair Repair
-Wrinkles and Age Spot
-Scars
I bought the Vitamin E oil because it is also an antioxidant so it helps prolong that shelf-life of whatever your making.

Grape Seed Oil

The reason I got grape seed oil because it's made for sensitive skin, it's just a plus that this is considered food grade.
This claims to be a natural moisturizer and prevent pores from being clogged ( which I desperately need) and breakouts ( Ive been getting whiteheads that turn into a little piece of disgusting gunk that can only come out if you "push" out, which is horribly scarring my face).

Another thing that caught my eye about grape seed  oil is that it helps minimize dark under-eye circles. My undereye circles are are like purple-brown and I'm only 17! My mom says that I would look like a druggie if I was 20 lbs lighter.

Another plus is that grape seed oil is very inexpensive. Well, its cheaper than maracuja oil. I got 4 fl. oz for 7-8$ while the maracuja oil was 13$ for 0.5 fl. oz. What a difference. Moving on.

Maracuja Oil
What the label says:
Maracuja Oil - Passionfruit Seed Oil Benefits: Nourishes, restores and moisturizes skin and hair. It can be used for all skin types, effectively reduces, wrinkles and skin dryness. External Use Only. Keep away from children.

So i got this because I wanted to compare Maracuja Oil to Argan Oil but Tarte, the only brand i know of that offers Maracuja Oil, does not carry a smaller version of their Maracuja oil. I didn't want to spend so much money on a bottle of oil that I might not even like so I just got this instead. If you do the math and proportions, this bottle is around how much the Tarte Maracuja oil would have been if there was a smaller bottle.

Rosehip Oil

So I got this because its known for fading acne scars and hyper pigmentation. Needless to say, I wanted to get rid of those scars from those pesky whiteheads.

And then I used Eucerin Calming Itch Relief as the base since I've been using that as my moisturizer.

Then I also added the Olay Fresh Effects Tinted Moisturizer, which I got from my recent Influenster VoxBox. You can go see my Influenster SunKissed VoxBox Review 2013. It has SPF 15 and claims to brighten and enhance your skin.

So I basically added the 2 parts moisturizer and 1 part tinted moisturizer.
This is container I used to mix it, i also added a few drops of foundation to increase the coverage.
Then i put it in these bottles for easy travel.
You can buy these from Daiso for $1.50 a pack. The blue capped one does not have the tinted moisturizer or foundation which i will use at night. The pink capped one is for the morning.

And that's pretty much it. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at ivylaw2196@gmail.com

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers Review and Swatches

Writing this a second time because my stupid Itouch decided to shut off right before I got to save it.

Anyways on with the review, these lip lacquers first came out in England in January and recently just made its way to the US.

There are 12 colors in the line, but I only got three to try out.

I got Comet first in-instore because I was too impatient to wait for a sale.I got it for around 6$ plus tax, but was listed as $5.50. Then I got Celestial and Luna online because Walgreens had BOGO50% AND the online price was 5$ ea, so it was about 4.06 plus tax ( or 3.75 each from
BOGO).

Applicator and Application:
The applicator is scooped in, so it's able to pick up more product. Some say it's the perfect amount to cover their lips. But for me, there's a bit too much so I scrape some of the product off on the rim of the tube when I'm applying.

I found that if you flip the brush over, you can use the tip and line your lips perfectly.

Smell:
There is also a slight fruity scent to it, almost like . . its too hard to describe but it smells like the Rimmel Kate #17 Lipstick
Off topic pic :)

Swatches:

Sadly the tube of Celestial I got was defective :( so I have to go back and return it. Kind of frustrating since I ordered it for a reason.

They forgot to put in the stopper when they manufactured it. The stopper takes off the excess product that's on the brush.

Also, if your buying these in a store, the seal is not that hard to break on the product, but to know if someone has used it before. There is a chamber that is clear and once you pull put the actual brush, the chamber gets filled with product.

This is how you can tell if someone used the product.

Now for the actual swatches.

These are all from one swipe, as you can see they are super pigmented. You can get a variety of different shades if you change application methods like dabbing and blending with your finger.

Comet and Celestial are more true to color in the photo with flash. Luna is kind of right in between, its not as light color in flash, but also not as orange as the color in no flash.

Lip swatches:
I used a bit of foundation to cover my natural lip color, so the lip lacquer color is as true as it can be. Only problem is lighting.
Celestial
Luna
Comet

Usually colors like Luna and Celestial wash me out, but these are great for me since I can really adjust how pigmented i want it to show up.

Longevity:
This lasted around 2-3 hours for me, but I wasn't really paying attention so it might last longer. There was a light tint from Comet after I ate, but I haven't tested the other ones out yet.

Conclusion:
Overall, I do like this product, its inexpensive and pretty long lasting. It doesn't  transfer, which is the main plus for me. I would try other colors, but the reds don't really appeal to me. As of now I'm debating whether Nude Eclipse will wash me out.
